ARTICLE 4:Membership

Section 4.1 Eligibility of Voting Members.
The Association may have one or more classes of members. Any past or present student of Munro College or Hampton School interested in the purposes of the Association is eligible for voting membership ("members") upon application and payment of the Association's membership dues.

Section 4.2 Affiliate Members.
The Executive Committee or Board of Directors may, at its sole discretion, accept as an affiliate member of this Association, upon application and payment of the prescribed dues, any full-time or part-time student, or faculty of any Jamaican school or anyone sharing the vision and goals of the association. Affiliate membership provides a method by which persons who are not members can be involved in activities of the Association and receive information and publications from the Association. An affiliate member shall have all the privileges of membership, except that they may not hold office; serve on the Executive Committee or Board of Directors; vote or participate in the election of any directors of the Association; or vote on the adoption, change or revision of any provision of these Bylaws or the Articles of Incorporation.

Section 4.3 Annual Dues.
The President shall fix the annual dues for members and affiliate members of the Association, subject to approval by a majority vote of the Board of Directors. There shall be no proration of annual dues. Upon becoming a member, dues shall be payable thereafter in advance of each membership year. Any member whose dues are in arrears for a period of sixty (60) days thereupon shall cease to be a voting member of the Association, and shall automatically become a non-voting member. Any and all office held shall be immediately vacated.

Section 4.4 Eligibility of Non-Voting Members.
Any past or present student of Munro College or Hampton School is automatically a non-voting member of the Association. A non-voting member shall have all the privileges of membership, except that they may not hold office; serve on the Executive Committee or Board of Directors; vote or participate in the election of any directors of the Association; or vote on the adoption, change or revision of any provision of these Bylaws or the Articles of Incorporation.

Section 4.5 No Voting Rights.
Members shall have no voting rights, except to choose a board of directors at the annual general meeting, or if the President opens the floor for voting on a specific issue during a regularly scheduled general meeting of the association.

Section 4.6 Proxy Voting.
Proxy voting shall be allowed for the selection of board members. Proxies will be circulated (electronically wherever possible) to all members in good standing at least 10 days before the scheduled meeting at which the vote is to take place. Proxies should be returned no later than 48 hours prior to the planned start of the meeting in order to be counted. Hand delivered proxies will be accepted at the meeting for inclusion in the vote count.

Section 4.7 Honorary membership.
The board may from time to time, as it deems appropriate, offer honorary membership to a person or persons who have provided outstanding service to the association or the institutions we represent. Honorary members should enjoy all the rights and privileges of regular members.

Section 4.8 Resignation of membership.
No member on resigning his or her membership in the association shall be entitled to a refund or return of any part of his or her subscription nor shall he or she be entitled to any claim on the assets of the association.

Section 4.9 Conduct of members.
Any member who on report made or otherwise found on substantial grounds by the Association to have been guilty of conduct unbecoming a gentleman or lady, whose conduct is derogatory to the character or injurious to the philosophy and interests of Munro College & Hampton School and/or the Association may at the discretion of the Board be called upon to give an explanation or be suspended for a certain period or expelled from the Association and such sentence shall take effect upon 2/3 of the Board of Directors present and voting at the inquiry.

Section 4.10 Appeals.
The Secretary shall summon a General Meeting on receiving direction from the Board of Directors or on requisition signed by no less than 20 members of the Association (full voting members) for purposes of listening to the appeal of an expelled member. In such cases, the notice convening the meeting shall state the object of the meeting and it shall not be permitted for any member to discuss any business other than that for which the meeting is convened.
